Jerry Peek, bass guitarist
|
Welcome to the site of bassist Jerry Peek, formerly of the Steve Morse Band, David Ragsdale Band, and 3PM. And yes, this site is still under construction (as if you couldn't tell). But at least I changed the font.
I suppose this marks the beginning of my career as a blogger.
Some thoughts for this particular season: Today is January 30, 2009. Forty years ago--Christmas 1969--I became a bassist, having received my first (terrible!) bass guitar for Christmas. But I was not disappointed--I had picked it out myself, at the Woolworth's store in the North Hills Shopping Mall in Raleigh, NC. Some of the locals may recall that this was when North Hills was an enclosed mall, unlike today. And some of my fellow dinosaurs may even recall yet earlier, when it was originally an open-air shopping center, as it is now--full circle, you might say.
A few days before Christmas in 2005 I lost my father, Harry. And so the holiday season has forever changed.
And then in this fateful year, 2009, I lost my mother, Ann, in July. And so now I have joined the orphans of the world, along with my brother and sister. This was our first Christmas without parents. I'm sure any therapist would call it a milestone.
And so, some advice: if your parents are still with us, take advantage of it. Call or write, often. It's no less valid for being a cliche.
Looking forward: some nice people--I guess I could call them "fans"--have inquired about my musical activities. I've been a lazy slacker for years now, but I resolve to do better--to actually get out and play, in 2010.
To those who have shown interest, my sincere thanks. And to all reading this, I wish you a happy New Year, and may God bless you, and all of us.
